Gavin was always doing these portraits of his nearest and dearest, like ‘throwaway litter to be picked up by street cleaners’. He is believed to draw instinctively on the wrapping paper lying on the counter of his local off-licence, Plonkers. The proprietor claims to have a priceless collection of spontaneous works by him - possibly thousands - on account of Gavin’s frequent visits to the shop.
