Fanciful collage by Gavin’s biographer, based on Gavin’s description of the Beggar Girl. There is doubt as to the authenticity of this portrait. It is considered to be the work of a street artist, who was only too happy to draw Christine, the Beggar Girl. Ralphael Steed paid the artist 150 francs to go away and then put his own name to the work. There arose an on-going dispute. Pierre Goudin (street artist) has taken the matter to the French courts and may yet go on to the Court of Human Rights in the Hague. ‘I am the artist! Ralphael STEED is nothing!!’ is his defence.
